About Gogorobí Foundation
The goal of Gogorobí Foundation is preservation, conservation and promotion of the storytelling tradition of Curaçao and Caribbean. Passing on the knowledge to the younger generation and also preservation and conservation of old instruments.
The foundation has created the Gogorobí Ensemble as means to reach this goal. Gogorobí Ensemble consists of different artist working together as to create a storytelling production. They work with musicians, storytellers, directors, play writers, designers and other artists. The Gogorobi’s recent production is “Yakobo i su banda’. This is a bilingual musical storytelling theater piece for children. The foundation has got funding from local organizations such as a bank, consultancy, the refinery and the Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds Caribisch gebied as well as a Dutch institution named’ Cultuurparticipatie fonds’.
Projects run by Gogorobi is special because besides being a bilingual project, they combine classical music with Curacao and Caribbean music with a mix of old instruments such as the gogorobí (a type of flute made of a smal kalabash), benta (looks like the birinbou from Bazil) and clarinette, guitar and steelpans. The performances are not only in Papiamentu and Dutch but also in English. At the Carifesta in Suriname people appreciated the way the stories are performed because it is very appealing for the young generation.
Your Challenge: Fundraising and network expansion
Our biggest challenge is the funding. We have managed to get funding for this project but we still have to start all over again in getting organizations interested in what we are doing and willing to support us. Fundraising should be an ongoing process and we are willing to have a well-defined strategy.
- What should be the Gogorobí Foundation fundraising strategy? By reaching which communities and how, we can expand our network to raise fund, deliver our unique products and spread our messages?
