Honorableness, simplicity and understanding

The most important thing I learned about using online communities and networks is, that there so many possibilities of online communities and networks, but not every possibility fits to your project. So you have to decide from case to case, which community or network works best for your design project. First you have to get a general idea of the different possibilities of this networks. For me this step was the most important in our design project, to figure out what fits best. Also I learned that online communities and networks are a great platform to public innovative design. However it is hard work to keep people interested in your design projects. Therefore you need a good presentation of your project.

I would like to highlight three design principles for designing and fostering online communities or networks.

My first design principle is honorableness. Good design needs to me honest. The customer or user needs to trust the community, otherwise he would not take interest in the community.

The second principle is simplicity. Customers or users should have the possibility to take easily part in the network or community without obstacles.

And the third principle is understanding. The customers or users need to understand what the community or network is for, otherwise they will not take part in this network. The reasons or aims have to be clear.

In the end I would like to say some last words our group work. I gained definitely some ideas, how to do better in group work and project management like better divide of tasks and more clear aims. However I like our work with “google drive”. This website offered us the possibility to share easily documents with all group members. I think in next group works this tool will be very useful. Now I am looking forward to our video!

Imagine of solution!

First of all i think that every theme we have been looking so far is important for solving the unmet need of the Gogorobí Foundation. However I think the most important themes are crowdfunding as one of the needs of the Gogorobí Foundation is fundraising.

Why is crowdfunding so important for the Gogorobí Foundation? Crowdfunding offers the possibility to make events and keep the foundation “alive” with money since one of our goals is to find a solution for the fundraising of the Gogorobí Foundation. People can spent a small amount of money to a project of the Gogorobí Foundation via a crowdfunding platform to support the Gogorobí Foundation with money. Also it is good if the Gogorobí Foundation has projects on a crowdfunding platform because it is one kind of cheap or free advertisement. People get informed about the project and the aims of the Gogorobí Foundation. The Gogorobí Foundation should use the advantage of the internet and crowdfunding platforms, to easily reach a lot of people which a willing to do something “good” and donate for a cultural project.

Another point is, if donators see that the projects really takes place because of there donation, they are maybe willing to pay also to another project because they are happy about there help for the success of the Gogorobí Foundation.

So in short the 3 reasons for using crowdfunding

  • Getting money for projects

  • Cheap advertisement

  • Emotional connection of donators

In my opinion the advertisement and marketing of the NGO will play a key role. It is necessary to make the Gogorobí Foundation more attractive for potential supporters to spend money for a project. Therefore the Gogorobí Foundation should better point out what they are doing. Furthermore they should upload more “catching” material like videos or music records at social platforms like facebook or youtube. Also I think the website of them need a rework since the layout looks very frumpy and is not available in english.

My solution would be to rework the public image and make it more “catchy”. Therefore they should rework the website of them and also the facebook page. People which a randomly come to this sides should be getting interested in this side because of audio records, videos or pictures. However I think they should go step buy step and try to do one really good event which shows who they are and what they do.This event should be documented .So they can use this event for continuing advertising on social platforms and especially refer at the next crowdfunding events to this one light bulb moment!

About Crowdfunding

About crowdfunding.

First of all i want to say that i really like the idea and possibility of crowdfunding.

Crowdfunding offers the possibility to realize “crazy” and innovative products. It is a unprecedented chance to develop a lot of “good” things. If people spend money for a crowdfunding project they have normally emotional connection to the product. And this is a huge advantage. Besides this crowdfunding offers the possibility of risk-free testing of new products. Also there is the possibility to be involved with just a little amount of money. Therefore it is possible for everybody to support a product.

Besides this advantages of crowdfunding there are some points which should meditated. The first point I want to mention on this “conta” side is, that it is a huge effort to mange a crowdfunding project. You need to do lot of public work to reach enough people which are willing to pay for your project. So you need always a lot of supporter. This could be a problem, if the product is uninteresting or just the public work does not reach enough people, and therefore the budget collapse. Another “con” point I want to mention is, that on crowdfunding platforms often just single projects get supported. When the project reaches the amount of money which it needs it is finished. So there is no constantly money flow. This could be a problem for e.g. NGO´s. However crowdfunding is good to support single events like festivals.

In conclusion I think it is always necessary to decide from project to project, where crowdfunding could work. Sometimes it is better to get a few “big” supporter. So you can focus on the developing of the product and there is not that high need of public work.

Wake up!

Hello everybody!

First of all I want to tell you want I liked the last weeks and especially the week. Last week It felt like the ice would break. There was a discussion about the split of the group for different tasks. I really enjoyed this discussion because there was something like criticism in a constructive way. Also I like our work with google drive and google hangout. We use google drive to upload our documents and results and everybody from our group has access to them. Another tool we use for our group work is google hangout. We had a cyber meeting, where everybody of the group took part. This meeting worked well and there was no technical problems. However I like it more to meet in real life because it feels more personal and you better see the reactions of the people you speak to. One good tool I like to share (Think Miriam has already shared this in our facebook group, but this tool is really cool) is doodle. With this online page you can find easily a time, when you can meet up. This tool works well with a lot of people and you can easily find out when the most people have time. I used this tool a lot in my past to find the perfect date for a meeting. Try it!

Now I want to speak about the “problems” in our group. The first problem I feel in this group is, that nobody wants to take the lead and furthermore the responsible. I think this do not have to be a problem in a group work, because I do not belief that a group needs always a leader. However it is necessary that everybody knows what to do in the group. And this is the main problem. There is to much confusion about the split of tasks in our group, that the process of group work is slow. There should be more dynamic in our group. With dynamic I mean discussions and criticism in a constructive way. We already started with this kind of dynamic, however this should be much more.

About the group size I think, that it is better do work with less then 4 people on new ideas, because otherwise it could be to chaotic. I am a fan of splitting up the tasks for 2 or maximum 3 people. So everybody can focus on his tasks and share the results later with the whole group. In my opinion is this the best way for a successful group work.

Therefore we should attack the problems in the way, that we start discussions and criticize in a constructive way if there is something somebody do not like or has a other opinion. Another point I would like to change is, that I think that there are to much laptops and mobile phones in our meeting. We should start focusing on our tasks and use the mobile phones and laptops only for the tasks. If we use less our electronic stuff we have to talk to each other. And this is one of the most important points in group work. I do not think that our cultural background has much influence on our group work. However I like and maybe need to work very structured and planned (Maybe because I am german, but I think it is more a streak.). Another point is that I often feel that people are very carefully with criticism. I do not really know why, but maybe it is because we do not know each other so well. I know that it could be hard to tell somebody criticism, but now is the time. We need to wake up!

Looking forward, Felix

Use of networks

Hello everyone!

This is my third blog entry about how i use networks.

My network consists basically out of my friends. We meet and share information with different digital tools. Mainly we use Facebook, Skype or Whatsapp. Normally I am just a “consumer” and observer of informations and content in the internet and not a creator. Till now I do not share my knowledge in forums or other community platforms. Also I am very niggardly with comments under youtube videos or blog entries. I do not really know why I do not like to write comments, but probably it is because I like to stay hidden in internet. However I know this is not possible, but I do not like to share my thoughts in the public space. It is very infrequent that I write a comment. I only write comments, if I think that a person writes very deceptive and false content. For example in political or music issues.

Like I mentioned, I like to read in forums in which topics I am interested in. These forums have a huge value for me, because I can read and learn from people, which are experts in their issue or just share their experience. In addition forums offer the possibility to get informations to a special topic from strangers. Normally I share a lot of knowledge with my real friends. But the internet makes the exchange of information with strangers possible in a easy way.

Another value cyber platform for me are blogs. There you have the possibility also to read personal experience and knowledge about an issue where you are interested. Often blogs are very personal written and also funny to read. Besides that you have the chance to get information as one of the first persons.

I really enjoy reading in blogs and forums, because you get the information you are interested in.

But it needs some time to get a good “list” of blogs. When you have such a list it is easy to dig more blogs with good and fresh content. I am a little lazy to read other blogs, so I normally stay at my four, five “home” blogs.

In conclusion the most value platforms for me are blogs and forums. Also I will start to increase the circle of my blogs, which are more design based. Furthermore I would like to try more to be more a creator and share my knowledge in forums and blogs. It already started with this blog!

Whish you a nice and enjoyable evening!

Week 3: Technology Stewardship and use during the course

First of all i want to look back to the last week of work in my Group. We did the first steps to work effectively. However we did not really know what everybody should do. Therefore it is important that everybody know his role and is doing his best to fill out the position. Furthermore it is important that everybody takes responsibility for his role and that there is a also a point in time, when everybody shares his knowledge with the group.

Now i want to write something about my cyber identity.

I am using only a few social platforms frequently. The platform I use most is Facebook. However i do not use my real name at Facebook because i do not want that everybody finds me there. But i think the people which want to find me there, will find me anyway. Facebook is important for me because it is the easiest way to keep in touch with friends. Furthermore you are always informed about people, you do not meet often in real life. Besides that, there is the problem, that some people create their fake personality in the internet. So its always good not only to trust the information you get from Facebook.

Other online platforms i like to use are different types of forums. For example i like to read in a german surf forum for personal informations about surfing. In this forum I get good information and can ask special questions, which i get answered by ”experts“. I appreciate this kind of getting knowledge or information about a special topic, because it is very personal.

Also i read blogs about topics where i am interested in. There you got personal information about a special topic, and often the writing style of the author is really funny. There are so many blogs in the internet to every topic. The blogs I read create partly my digital identity, because that blogs are about the topics where I am interested in. I am mainly interested in blogs about electronic music, funny stuff, design, street art and youth culture.

Besides this social platforms there are many other „sharing tools“ like Soundcloud, twitter or youtube. Soundcloud and youtube are good platforms for listening new music or watching videos. Especially for electronic music. Soundcloud is a good platform for young music creators to share there productions and projects and show them a huge publicity.

Till now my only digital skill in using a program is using Photoshop and Ableton live for playing live music via a midi hardware.

In conclusion I like the fact that every platform gives you the possibility to show your thoughts, music or projects to a huge publicity. This is a big possibility for our and the following generations to make the world better!

Week 2: Fundraising and network expansion

This is my first post on tumblr.

I think the goal of the class is to get trained in using of community platforms like blogs to support a project. Furthermore we should find a sustainable solution to support a NGO.

I expect to get more skilled in using and creating blogs and other online communities. This is my first time using a blog. So everything is new, but i am excited to explore the possibility of working with blogs.

Moreover I would like to create a outcome with my group, which is feasible and becomes true. Therefore it would be nice, if we as students profit by the 8 weeks of study and also the Gogorobí Foundation.

Actual I am not sure about my “specialty quality”, but hopefully my team and I will discover this in the following 8 weeks. However i like to work as a team.

I am looking forward to have 8 instructive weeks with my group and the rest of the program.
